There’s a letter from Julia Spencer-Fleming on Goodreads announcing the delay of her seventh Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne mystery. Here’s a snippet from her message:
When is One Was A Soldier coming out?
I’m getting this question a lot–in emails, on Goodreads, during coffee hour at my church… First Amazon posted its publication date as “February 2012,” then sent out a notice it was going to be on sale a month from now! I was deluged by readers wanting to know which was true, and what the story was?
Here’s the good news: One Was A Soldier will be coming out a lot sooner than 2012.
Here’s the less-good news: You won’t be able to read it this year. Publication is set for April, 2011.
Sob! I was so looking forward to reading this book next month. However, Julia Spencer-Fleming’s books have all been excellent, and I’m sure One was a Soldier will be worth the wait. In the meantime, I’m going to console myself with the latest instalment in Jacqueline Winspear’s entertaining Maisie Dobbs series, The Mapping of Love and Death.

Sad, but still a lot better than GRRM. Nobody knows when (or even *IF*) the next instalment of ASOIAF will be available. No updates since January 2008
@Christian: You mean George R.R. Martin? Yeah, I can understand why his fans feel frustrated.
Aaaargh!!! We have to wait another year for Julia Spencer-Fleming’s next book. This is not good. I think I’m going to go have a tantrum. Right now.
True, there are plenty of other mystery series to amuse yourself with in the meantime.
With all due respect (and I type that not at all sarcastically) to Heidenkind, other mystery series are still *just* other mystery series. I know I sound like the most unreasonable fangirl in the Twilight Zone when I say this, but J S-F’s books are different. Sure the mystery part of them is fine, but the relationship between Russ and Clare has a far greater impact on me personally than any other series-with-recurring-lovers I can name.
The only consolation I can really muster (apart from the 6 feet of TBR staring me in the face) is that we have six of her books to reread. I don’t have the time, admittedly, but I have the books. I can make it another year.
Aww, what? Shite!
I’m with Magdalen, JSF’s books are different from other mysteries.
I believe it’s supposed to come out in April 2010, if it’s THIS year
