Bits & Bobs

I haven’t done a links post in a while, so here are a few light-hearted ones.

Bloggers KristieJ, Wendy the Super Librarian, and Sybil of The Good, The Bad, The Unread are hosting The Western Drive this week in honour of romances set in the Wild West. As so few are published these days, reading their posts made me nostalgic.

BookThingo are running a fun contest to win a free copy of Philippa Gregory’s new book, The White Queen.  To quote from the contest rules:

For a chance to win a free copy of The White Queen, choose any book and tell us who should play the main character/s if it were to be turned into a film, and WHY.

I’m still trying to figure out who the cover model reminds me of. A young Frances McDormand?

Author Julie James is a guest blogger at Romance Novel TV. She asks: Which Five Fictional Characters Would You Invite to Dinner? I’m still pondering my list but I know I’d love to meet Miss Marple…as long as no one at the dinner party wound up dead!

Enjoy your weekend!

Miss Marple for sure!

But also Lord Peter Wimsey, Harriet Vane and Bunter–I love Bunter! I want a Bunter all my own!

*ahem*

Hmmm if I add Hercules Poirot I’m done…

I didn’t know there weren’t a lot of Western romances published these days. For some reason I never got into them; I wouldn’t even know where to start if I was thinking about reading one.

Miss Marple would be awesome to have to dinner. She’s so cute! And you might wind up being someone who helps her solve the murder, not someone who gets killed.

@azteclady Yes! Let’s add Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. Although we would really need to watch our backs at this dinner party…

@heidenkind There aren’t many Westerns published these days, much to my disappointment. My fave author was Maggie Osborne. I haven’t read that many Westerns, actually, as they are so hard to find and many of those from the 90s are OOP.

I want Harry Dresden to come to dinner, as well as Scout Finch, Sookie Stackhouse, Zarek and Simi. That should make for some interesting dinner conversation. :-D

@Edie Oh, Scout Finch would make an excellent addition! Is Harry Dresden from the Jim Butcher books?

I will always love Scout! Harry Dresden is the wizard from Jim Butcher series, a very entertaining character.
