As an inveterate maker of lists, I keep a running tab of upcoming books which might be of interest to me. I love looking at other people’s future book lists as I often find ones I missed. If you can think of any which I might like, please let me know.

Here’s my list so far for the second half of 2009:

July

Kill for Me by Karen Rose – Romantic Suspense

Genesis by Karin Slaughter – Thriller (US Title: Undone)

Don’t Tempt Me by Loretta Chase – Historical Romance

What Happens in London by Julia Quinn – Historical Romance (I was going to give this one a miss as I was underwhelmed by Quinn’s last few books. The glowing reviews have convinced me to take a chance.)

Bound by his Touch by Meredith Duran – Historical Romance

Start Me Up by Victoria Dahl - Contemporary Romance

Instant Gratification by Jill Shalvis – Contemporary Romance

Double Play by Jill Shalvis – Contemporary Romance

August

Evil at Heart by Chelsea Cain – Thriller

Stolen Heat by Elisabeth Naughton – Romantic Suspense

Written on your Skin by Meredith Duran – Historical Romance

A Duke of her Own by Eloisa James – Historical Romance

Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare – Historical Romance (This is Tessa Dare’s debut book and it’s received some positive advance buzz. I think it’s the first in a trilogy. At any rate, she has two more books out in September and October which I’ll read if I like the first one.)

Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs – Urban Fantasy

September

With Seduction in Mind by Laura Lee Guhrke – Historical Romance

Surrender of a Siren by Tessa Dare – Historical Romance

October

Tempted at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas – Historical Romance

A Lady of Persuasion by Tessa Dare – Historical Romance

Covet by J.R. Ward – Paranormal/Urban Fantasy/??? (Does anyone know what genre this book is?)

November

To Desire a Devil by Elizabeth Hoyt – Historical Romance

One Was a Soldier by Julia Spencer-Fleming – Mystery

Where Serpents Sleep by C.S. Harris – Historical Mystery (mass market release)

December

None so far

How about Branded by Fire – Nalini Singh 7/7 and Destined for an Early Grave – Jeaniene Frost 7/28? Do you read those series..so good!!

JR Ward says Covet is romance…

KB just gave Goddess of the Hunt an A-. I’m very intrigued…

@Mandi I’m one of the very few dissenters when it comes to Nalini Singh. I thought the first couple of Psy/Changeling books were OK but I couldn’t finish ‘Angels’ Blood’.

I’m actually not much of a paranormal fan which was why I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed Patricia Briggs’s ‘Moon Called’. I’m currently reading ‘Blood Bound’ and thoroughly liking it. I also have the first two in her Alpha and Omega series (‘On the Prowl’ and ‘Cry Wolf’). Do the Alpha and Omega books need to be read in a particular order in conjunction with the Mercy Thompson series, or are they totally separate? I read somewhere that they occur earlier than the events in later Mercy Thompson books, so I’m not sure if I need to read them between ‘Blood Bound’ and ‘Iron Kissed’.

Thanks for the info regarding ‘Covet’. J.R. Ward is a mystery to me as her books have so many traits which annoy me, yet I keep coming back for more!

Yes, I saw KB’s post. I’ve only heard positive things about Tessa Dare so far.

Although On the Prowl and Cry Wolf occur early on in her Mercy Thompson series, you do not have to read them before Iron Kissed or anything. They are totally separate. The only thing I suggest to people is that they definitely read the On the Prowl Anth before Cry Wolf..I am not a huge fan of anthologies, but Cry Wolf is so much better if read second.

Tessa Dare is an amazing new author and will be a shining star for the historical romance genre.

I am on pins and needles for the Chelsea Cain novel. Don’t forget in October two great books come out. C.L. Wilson’s Lady of Song and Souls, book 4 in her Fading Lands series and Meljean Brook’s Demon Forged.

Very nice list, although starting from October, mine and yours start to differ :)

Karen Rose has a new one in August, but then, it’s going to be HC…

I can’t wait for the Laura lee Guhrke!!

@Mandi Thanks, Mandi. I have the ‘On the Prowl’ anthology and I’ll make sure I read the Alpha and Omega novella before starting ‘Cry Wolf’.

@katiebabs I’ve never read C.L. Wilson, yet she’s another author about whom I’ve only heard positive things. I’ve also never read Meljean Brook’s work but she comes across as such a cool person on Twitter that I really should give one a go.

@nath The HC issue is the one and only reason that the next Karen Rose is not on my list. As her last book was released in mass market only five months after the HC came out, I’m hoping I won’t have to wait too long for this one.

I make lists like this, too, except I write them down old skool style. :)

What about Captive of Sin by Anna Campbell? Should be coming out in October.

@heidenkind I’m obsessed with making lists. Not that I always stick to them! I’ve only read ‘Claiming the Courtesan’ by Anna Campbell and I didn’t care for the hero. He was way too alpha for my tastes, which is probably why he appealed to so many other readers nostalgic for old-style romances.
